The Best Bar None!!!

The University of Strathclyde Students’ Association (USSA) has once more been recognised with the highly prestigious Best Bar None Overall Gold Winner award by the City of Glasgow. This is the third consecutive Gold award that USSA has received and the second consecutive Overall winner title.

USSA’s President, Neil Campbell, said of the award,

“We are really pleased to be recognised as being at the forefront of social responsibility, not only among Student Unions but also among other licensed entertainment venues. We are committed to providing a safe social environment for Strathclyde students, whilst enjoying our diverse range of entertainment, so to have been recognised with this award is a remarkable achievement. It’s great too for our staff and the student movement in general that unions are finally being recognised as places whose primary thought is of the safety and wellbeing of their members, not profit.”

There were over eighty winners at this year’s BBN awards across the Bronze, Silver and Gold bands and in the categories of Pubs, Clubs and Entertainment Venues. As the overall Gold winner, USSA was up against the best venues in Glasgow.

In order to allocate the annual BBN Awards, representatives of Glasgow City Council undertake rigorous inspections at all the venues that have entered to determine which of them will receive a Bronze or Silver award. All of the Silver winners in each category are then submitted to an independent panel that decides which of those should be named as Gold award winners and who should be the Overall Gold award winner.
The Best Bar None Awards ceremony took place at the City Chambers on Tuesday 18th November and the awards were sponsored by Diageo.

Battle of the Brains

The difficulty of the questions is pitched at around Mastermind level, so we're looking for a pretty high standard of quizzer. Every show two teams will face each other in a tense and exciting battle of wits. The team captain chooses six of their friends to form their team, sending them into battle against an opponent’s team in a series of exciting one on one rounds. It's down to the skill and judgement of the captain to cleverly assemble an intellectual fighting force to win the game. Teams will be challenged in a range of subjects, such as the Film and Television, Literature, Science and Sport. The winners will have to combine their team skills in order to win the competition and to battle your way towards national glory.

The competition is free to enter, and teams play for the chance to win £2000 per episode, as well as the chance to stay on into the next episode.
