What is the Students' Representative Council (SRC)?

All students at the University of Strathclyde are members of the Students' Association - the Students' Association belongs to you! As a member you have the right to steer the Students' Association and influence the decisions that are made.

The SRC is one of most powerful bodies in the Students' Association. It's like a mini parliament which makes decisions about the running of the Union and about lobbying of the University, local council or even the Scottish and Westminster Governments about real issues which affect all students.

So what has SRC done in the past?

• In the past students were forced to pay for their course materials, because of the action of SRC they are now free! 
• No longer must students be dehydrated and uncomfortable during long study sessions. Because of SRC you can now take your water into the library and pressure for library improvements is ongoing. 
• Thanks to SRC all marking in the University is now anonymous so everyone is marked equally.

SRC acts on real issues that affect you directly.

SRC is the voice of the students of Strathclyde and the place to come if you want to change your student experience for the better!

What does an SRC Representative have to do?

All you have to do is attend 7 meetings over the academic year, at which you can help make important decisions, hold the elected Executive Officers to account and decide how the Association should spend its money. Most importantly you can put forward your own ideas and suggestions to make YOUR Students' Association relevant to you.

So who can become an SRC Representative?

YOU! Any Strathclyde student can become part of SRC

Still a bit unsure? New to the University? Sounds Complicated? No Experience? - Don't Worry

SRC has places especially reserved for first years, continuing students and postgraduate students. A training session will be held before the first SRC so you can come to the first meeting ready for action. The Union Chair (who is also a student) will guide all members of SRC through the meetings answering any questions you may have.

Other Opportunities

By joining SRC you'll have the opportunity to join a number of other small and more focused committees and contribute to the effective running of your Students' Association. These include Marketing, Environmental & Ethical, Campaigns, Communications, Jordanhill and Postgraduate to name a few.

What's in it for me?

A sense of virtue in knowing that you have spent time working on behalf of your fellow students is surely all you need?

If that's not enough participation in SRC provides the key skills and experience in public speaking, team and committee work and representation which recruiters are increasingly looking for. It will really help you stand out from the crowd in today's highly competitive graduate job market as someone who cares enough to get involved in the process of running your union.

On a social side, SRC is a great opportunity to meet new people - you'll make loads of friends when you join. After SRC meetings you'll have the opportunity to carry on you arguments over a few drinks, you'll be invited to the SRC Christmas party and at the end of the year; you will be invited to the University of Strathclyde Students Association STAR Awards - the most prestigious event in the University Calendar.

Look out for your nomination form in your mailing or download a copy during and after Freshers Week or pick up a nomination form from the Students' Association and fill it in.
