Becoming a course representative
Within each course subject or year group, students are elected by their classmates to represent their views to members of University staff. These elections are run within each class and usually take place early in the first semester of the academic year.
These representatives act as a link between lecturers and students and are responsible for passing on information to their class and for bringing issues concerning their fellow students to the attention of academic staff.
Although all course representatives are elected through their classes, the Students' Association provides training for all of them once elections have taken place. The Association can also put students in touch with their course representative should they not know who they are.
All course representatives are also invited to attend the Student Congress. This is a once per semester event held by the Students' Association that allows all course representatives to come together to discuss the issues affecting their courses and to raise any outstanding concerns with the Students' Association who can in turn make representations to the University.
For more information about becoming a course representative visit the University's student representation page or contact the Association's Democratic Services Co-ordinator, Darren Matthews, at dmatthews@theunion.strath.ac.uk or by telephone on 0141 567 5049.
