Glasgow is Scotland’s largest city and undoubtedly one of Europe’s most dynamic cities; steeped in culture, rich in history, but above all alive with an excitement you can sense as you walk through its elegant streets, squares, parks and gardens. The city has been transformed over the past 30 years through a myriad of regeneration strategies and is now recognised as a quality destination for business, pleasure, tourism and leisure. Today, Glasgow is renowned for its culture, art, design and entertainment. Glasgow was 1990 European City of Culture, the City of Architecture 1999 and will be the host to the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Art

High points of your Glasgow experience could include a visit to the Scottish Opera, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Ballet, the world famous Burrell Collection, the magnificent and newly-refurbished Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, the Transport Museum and the stunning Gallery of Modern Art. Each year, the city hosts events as varied as the Glasgow International Jazz Festival, Celtic Connections and the West End Festival.

Retail

The city also boasts the largest retail centre in the UK, outside London. For those in pursuit of more commercial self-expression, the city centre provides numerous shopping experiences including the chic and trendy Princes Square and the epic Buchanan Galleries, all of which are complemented by the elegance of the Italian Centre and the speciality shops of the Merchant City. Likewise, come evening, this is a city that is all about entertainment. You can choose from over 800 bars, 30 nightclubs and 51 cinema screens.

Sport

Greater Glasgow and Clyde Valley’s sporting facilities are second to none. Sport is an important part of the city’s culture and nothing illustrates this better than winning the bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games. With this in mind, the sports enthusiasts should check out our super sporting venues including XSCAPE, Hampden Park – Scotland's National Stadium, Celtic Park, Ibrox Stadium and Kelvingrove Park.
