Ask Values and Objectives

Values

1) Students will be helped to explore all the options available to them and will receive advice and support that will empower them to make informed decisions.
2) Students should be supported to give advice and support to their peers.
3) Continuous training is necessary for the provision of accurate information and high standards of service.
4) The service is confidential and the privacy of students is to be respected in accordance with the Data Protection Act and Student Confidentiality Statement. Only in extreme circumstances will information be disclosed and then only after consultation with the student and Ask staff members.
5) All those who provide and use the service will not be discriminated against and any discriminatory and offensive remarks will not be tolerated. The service will adhere to the Equal Opportunities policy of the Students' Association and that of the University. All those who work within the service need to be made clear about these policies.
6) All students should have equal access to the service and if a student is not able to come in to the office, advisers will meet the student at a mutually convenient place. This service will be publicised to students.

Objectives

1) Help students obtain all the services and rights to which they are entitled.
2) Provide a drop-in advice centre that is accessible to all students.
3) Develop and enhance the Ask volunteer programme.
4) Work alongside other support agencies within and outwith the University.
5) Develop campaigns on issues relevant to students.
