Statement on the Home Affairs Select Committee Report on Anti-Semitism

Raj Jeyaraj - President

We are deeply concerned to read the Home Affairs Select Committee report on anti-Semitism, highlighting the sharp increase in anti- Semitic incidents across the UK. We acknowledge the presence of anti-Semitism throughout society, including amongst students and strive to fight it in all its forms. In particular we recognise the lack of knowledge and awareness around what constitutes anti-Semitism and the unique historical significance of anti-Semitic prejudice.

University of Strathclyde Students' Association takes anti-Semitism and all other forms of racism very seriously. All anti-Semitic incidents are dealt with under our Equal Opportunities policy and any student found in violation is treated with a zero tolerance approach. We continue in constructive dialogue with our Jewish students, and all other faith groups to ensure that our campus is a safe and supportive environment for all.

Eliminating discrimination is considered a matter of urgency for the Students Association and we intend to work on the report findings. We will continue to work with our Jewish students, National Union of Students', Strathclyde University, and Jewish groups in the city, to raise awareness about and combat anti-Semitism. We will also work with the National Union of Students to increase and improve their Anti Racism Anti Fascism campaign for the better.

*The Union is a third party hate crime reporting centre, any student wishing to report hate crime should speak to a member of Union staff or email ussa.advice@strath.ac.uk Any student who would like to discuss the report findings, or action the Union is taking on anti-Semitism should contact the USSA President Raj Jeyaraj on ussa.president@strath.ac.uk*
